The late Anthony Minghella, a much-missed giant of British cinema, adapted and directed Michael Ondaatje’s Booker-winning novel and the film picked up nine Oscars. It’s an epic love story about a Hungarian pilot’s relationship with two women in two quite different eras around the Second World War. The sophisticated narrative is very elegantly rendered; the sublime cinematography features the North African desert landscape.
